New safety campaign to target residential construction industry

Master Builders ACT, WorkSafe ACT, Capital Airport Group, the Suburban Land Agency and Ginninderry have joined forces for a new safety campaign focusing on the residential construction industry.

Master Builders ACT CEO Michael Hopkins said after two deaths on ACT worksites in 2020, the campaign would call on the sector to: identify and report safety hazards; wear personal protective equipment; follow Safe Work Method Statements; seek advice if you are unsure about carrying out any tasks; don’t take shortcuts and keep safety at the forefront.

“Everyone deserves to be safe in their workplace and the construction industry is no different,” Mr Hopkins said.

“With the number of high risks elements that our members are exposed to every day, it’s crucial that everyone does their part to make sure we all return home safely to our families at the end of the day.”

The consortium has released a safety video for local residential industry members to highlight how to prioritise safety.
